Why Laty Wizy Wants to Be Seen as an Artiste, Not Just a Songwriter

Ugandan singer and songwriter Laty Wizy is stepping out of the shadows.

Known for writing hits for some of the country’s top musicians, he says it is time the public recognizes him as a full-fledged artiste.

In a revealing interview with Sanyuka Uncut, Laty Wizy spoke about the struggles of songwriters in Uganda, many of whom rarely get the credit they deserve.

I do not want to be recognized only as a writer. I front being an artiste because, honestly, most artistes do not respect songwriters the way they should. We play a big role in making music what it is.

The rising star also used the moment to showcase his new song, Kyononya, which features Carol Nantongo.

He described it as a mix of love and emotion that will resonate with fans across the country.

I am calling upon all Ugandans to listen to my new song ‘Kyononya’ with Carol Nantongo. We put a lot of effort into it, and I believe people will love the message and the vibe.
