Why Maddox Does Not Listen to the Current Crop of Ugandan Musicians

Maddox Ssemanda Sematimba has opened up about why he rarely listens to today’s crop of Ugandan musicians.

Speaking on Sanyuka Uncut, the legendary reggae artiste made it clear that his choice is not rooted in disrespect.

In fact, he acknowledged that many artistes are producing quality music.

There are very many musicians who have good music.

However, Maddox said his personal taste remains firmly rooted in old school sounds.

For me, it comes from the fact that I listen a lot to old school. I do not listen much to today’s artistes because if they are children or youths, their mindset reflects that stage of life and they naturally target an audience within their age group

According to him, generational differences naturally influence the kind of music artistes create and the audiences they attract.

Their mindset leads them to create the kind of music they do because they know there are people who relate to them.

Maddox framed the issue as one of preference, mindset and target audience, not quality.
