Why Nigerian Singer Simi Wants Change in Her Country
Afrobeats singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, shared her pride in being Nigerian, saying the energy and spirit of the people is something unique to the country.
She believes no one can truly copy the way Nigerians are, not even actors trying African accents in movies.
Nobody else can be a Nigerian other than a Nigerian. Even when they are faking African accents in Hollywood movies, they never actually fake a Nigerian accent.
While she loves the warmth and resilience of Nigerians, the “Joromi” hitmaker also wishes the country were in a better state.
She pointed out that many citizens feel forced to leave because opportunities and conditions are not what they should be.
For Simi, being Nigerian feels natural and like home.
That connection makes her hope that one day people would have fewer reasons to leave and more reasons to stay.
