Why Selecta Jeff Says Being a DJ Today Is Harder Than Back in the Day

Ugandan DJ Selecta Jeff has stirred an interesting conversation online after saying that the modern deejay world comes with more pressure than ever before.

In a post shared on X, he explained that many people think the older generation had it tough because they worked with vinyl, tapes and CDs.

However, he believes that today’s DJs handle a much wider workload that goes far beyond music alone.

According to him, a deejay in this era must keep up with promotion, manage social media pages, design visuals, edit content and constantly entertain both online and on stage.

Being a DJ in this era is way harder than it was back in the day. All you had to do was DJ. Now you have to be a DJ, promoter, social media guru, graphics designer, editor and also a dancer and a lawyer.

Jeff also showed respect for female DJs, saying they face even more challenges behind the scenes as they try to build their names in the industry.

If you are a female DJ, it even goes deeper. That is why I respect Lady Selectas. Their hustle is way different.

His comments quickly attracted reactions from his followers, with many agreeing that DJs today must combine talent with branding and digital skills in order to survive in a busy entertainment world.

What stands out from Jeff’s message is the idea that being a DJ no longer ends with mixing music.

It now includes creativity, marketing, and constant visibility.

So we ask you: Do you think it is a breeze for DJs to make it today, or is the hustle real, hard, and brutal?
