Wiz Khalifa Sentenced to Nine Months in Romanian Jail Over Drug Charges
American rapper Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in a Romanian jail, more than a year after his arrest on drug possession charges.
The ruling was delivered on December 18 by the Constanta Court of Appeal, according to the Associated Press citing Romania’s national news agency, Agerpres.
Khalifa, real name Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was performing at the Beach, Please festival in Costinesti in July 2024 when authorities say he was found with over 18 grams of cannabis and was seen smoking some on stage.
He was convicted of possession of dangerous drugs for personal use without legal right.
Earlier in April 2025, a lower court had fined the rapper 3,600 lei, but prosecutors appealed and pushed for a tougher sentence.
Judges said the decision was meant to set an example, arguing that his actions promoted acceptance of illegal drug use among young people.
After the incident, Khalifa apologized publicly, saying he meant no disrespect to Romania.
It remains unclear if extradition will follow since he is a United States citizen.
