Wizkid Faces Backlash for Claiming He Built His Career Without Help

Wizkid is facing a storm online after a bold comment in his upcoming HBO documentary Long Live Lagos.

The Nigerian superstar said he had “no blueprint” while building his career, even though he got his start under Banky W’s record label.

The “Holla at Your Boy” star explained, “There was no blueprint for me. I had to build a structure for myself.”

But fans were quick to react, saying the remark downplayed Banky W’s role and seemed to disrespect the veteran musicians who paved the way for today’s stars.

Social media quickly lit up. Some defended Wizkid, saying he was highlighting his independence and drive. Others argued he should have acknowledged those who helped him rise.

Wizkid also shared in the documentary that Fela Kuti was a major inspiration.

He credited the Afrobeat legend with giving him the confidence to pursue music at the highest level.
