Wizkid, Rema and Tyla Make Spotify’s 100 Greatest Pop Songs List

Spotify has released its editorial list of the 100 Greatest Pop Songs of the Streaming Era, and African artistes feature prominently.

The ranking, compiled by Spotify’s editors, covers music from 2015 to the present and focuses on impact and influence rather than streams alone.

At number eight is “One Dance” by Drake featuring Wizkid and Kyla.

The 2016 track became the first song to reach one billion streams on Spotify and helped push Afrobeats further into the global mainstream.

Rema’s “Calm Down” ranks at number 29.

The remix with Selena Gomez became the most successful Afrobeats single on the Billboard charts and the first African artiste led song to cross one billion Spotify streams.

At number 50, Tyla’s “Water” highlights Amapiano’s global expansion, marking a major milestone for South African pop.

The list confirms the growing influence of African sounds in global pop.
