Yeni Kuti Calls Out Artistes Over Fela Comparisons

Yeni Kuti, daughter of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, has criticized modern artistes who compare themselves to her father, saying such talk misses the meaning of legacy.

The Nigerian media personality spoke during an interview on Arise TV after joining family members to receive his Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy Awards.

Yeni said Fela’s name still commands attention many years after his death, which shows the scale of his impact.

According to her, today’s stars should focus on their own paths and measure success among their peers rather than placing themselves beside a historic figure.

She believes legends deserve respect, not comparison battles.

Her comments follow recent reactions sparked by Wizkid after remarks about being bigger than Fela, a claim that drew criticism from Seun Kuti, Fela’s son and longtime defender of his legacy.
