Ykee Benda Speaks Out on Paid Political Performances
Singer Ykee Benda has explained why he will keep supporting whoever pays for his work, saying music remains his main source of income. In a TikTok video, the artist said his position is simple and honest. If someone pays him to perform, he will sing. If no payment is made, he would rather stay quiet.
Ykee Benda shared that for a long time he stayed away from supporting any political side. That changed after fellow musician Bebe Cool reached out and invited him to perform at NRM rallies. He said Bebe Cool advised him to take the opportunity since he is now married and has greater financial responsibilities than before. According to Ykee, the shows helped him earn money and support his household.
He added that Bebe Cool mentioned another reason for the invitation, which was to observe whether President Museveni still commands support among the people. For Ykee Benda, the decision remained about work and survival rather than politics.
The singer also addressed critics who questioned his choices. He said anyone unhappy with his performances should ask their leaders to invite him for paid work instead of attacking him online. Without a formal invitation and payment, he asked to be left alone to earn his living.
