You Cannot Be Average on a Track With Cindy — Bruno K

Bruno K and Cindy Sanyu started 2026 on a high note with their collaboration “Like You,” but the story behind the song is just as interesting as the track itself.

Speaking on Rewind, Bruno revealed that the partnership grew from real-life support, not just studio plans.

The idea for their collaboration took shape after he helped promote her 2025 concert, The Royal Experience, online through his popular TikTok live sessions known as Kiboozi.

I reached out to her after she appeared on Kiboozi, and I helped her promote her concert online by selling tickets. We sold over 7 million worth of tickets, and she was very appreciative because Cindy is real. When you do something for her, she appreciates it.

According to him, that appreciation turned into opportunity.

When she asked how she could return the favor, he proposed a collaboration.

She asked me what she could do for me, and I told her I would love to sing a song with her, and she said no problem. She gave me her full support, from the audio to the video. She has always been there. There are musicians you work with who really disturb you, but Cindy did not disturb me at any point. Even now, I call her and ask her for guidance, and she still comes through.

Beyond the support, Bruno said working with the self-styled “King Herself” pushed him to step up musically.

When I was in the studio with Cindy, there are things I learned. First of all, Cindy told me to challenge myself. She said, ‘I do not want you to sound like the Bruno K people usually know, the one who sings love songs. I want you to be on the song with the King herself.’

He added that Cindy’s work ethic is no joke, placing her among artistes known for delivering strongly on collaborations.

She is one female artiste you know who comes through strongly on a song. That is why when you are going to do a song with Cindy, you really have to lock in, because she is a true artiste and she does not play around. She is on the list of artistes like Sizza Man, Sean Paul, and Chris Brown who really deliver on songs. If you are doing a collaboration with any of them, you have to give your best.

For Bruno, the collaboration was a test, one that demanded he rise to the standard Cindy sets on a song.
