Artin Pro Calls Kapeke Dope as Genre Debate Continues
Prominent Ugandan audio producer and sound engineer Artin Pro has weighed in on the ongoing debate about Kapeke’s music genre.
The discussion began after Kapeke won awards in hip-hop categories at the Zzina Awards, largely thanks to the success of his hit song “Kaba.”
Some members of the LugaFlow community questioned the classification.
Rappers Viboyo and St. Nelly-Sade were among those who argued that the song should not be considered hip hop.
Asked about the issue during a sit down on Galaxy TV, Artin Pro described Kapeke as dope but avoided placing him in any specific genre.
All I can tell you is that Kapeke is dope. About genres, I do not like classifying. It is Kapeke who can classify himself.
He added that the music industry is like an open market.
Artistes release what they want, and the audience decides what to consume.
There is what they call an open market. Everyone has the freedom to sell what they sell and the consumers choose what they want.
