Bebe Cool Tells Local Musicians to Stop Complaining About Diamond’s Pay and Focus on Building Their Value

As some Ugandan musicians continue to express anger over how they were treated during the recent Coffee Marathon and concert in Ntungamo, veteran artiste Bebe Cool has stepped forward with a strong message for the local music industry.

The storm started after reports emerged that Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz was paid a shocking UGX 750 million for his performance in Uganda.

To make matters worse, Diamond was flown in on a private jet and even used helicopters to move around the country, while many Ugandan artistes were paid very little and had to travel by road.

The glaring difference in treatment has left several local artistes feeling disrespected and undervalued in their own country.

But Bebe Cool, who has never been afraid to speak his mind, believes the outrage is being misdirected.

According to him, the issue is not about how much Diamond was paid, but about how much value Ugandan artistes bring to the table.

“I have been ahead of all the artistes so far when it comes to issues of music, patriotism, and understanding. I still have a journey to teach a lot of you, my young brothers and sisters, how and why you should say or not say certain things at certain times, most especially if you are not factual,” he said.

Bebe Cool explained that artistes are paid based on the value they offer and their negotiation power, not merely because they are Ugandan.

He added that for local artistes to earn better, they must learn how to present value to their customers.

“You only get what you negotiate. Ugandan artistes, please put value on yourselves. Value on yourselves begins from looks, how you conduct yourself, your services, value for their money, and branding,” he said.

Instead of complaining about what others are earning, Bebe Cool is urging his fellow artistes to step up their game.
