Maro Questions Why a Foreign Act Headlined the Coffee Marathon-Concert in Ntungamo
Singer Maro has added his voice to the ongoing debate surrounding the Coffee Marathon and Concert held in Ntungamo, where Tanzanian icon Diamond Platnumz reportedly received a massive payout and top billing over local performers.
While many have focused their anger on the Shs750 million Diamond allegedly earned, Maro believes the real issue lies elsewhere.
“We do not have to complain about how much he was paid because that is his business. He can even decide not to tell us and even the promoter can decide not to disclose because it is a deal made between them,” Maro said.
He explained that Diamond’s rate reflects his brand value, and it is not something the public should be outraged about.
Instead, Maro questioned the decision to have a foreign artiste headline an event that was meant to promote Uganda’s coffee industry.
“The problem should not be how much he was paid, but rather why they got an artiste from a different country to come and perform here,” he said.
The event featured a strong lineup of Ugandan acts including Bebe Cool, Eddy Kenzo, Ray G, and Truth 256, but Maro believes making Diamond the main act sends the wrong message.
“Making Diamond the headliner is the problem right now,” he pointed out.
To the self-styled RnB Kyabazinga, the core issue revolves around national representation, as he believes Ugandan artistes should have led the show rather than played supporting roles.
