Douglas Lwanga Calls for All-Star Song to Address Rising Drug Abuse
Media personality Douglas Lwanga has called for a new all-star awareness song to tackle drug abuse among young people, drawing inspiration from one of Uganda’s most memorable music projects.
Through a post on X, Lwanga reflected on the “All Stars Struggle Against AIDS” campaign, which brought together some of the country’s biggest musicians for the song “A Little Bit of Love” in 2006.
The project used the influence of popular artistes to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and encourage conversations around a disease that was affecting millions across the continent.
Two decades later, Lwanga believes a similar approach could help address another growing concern among young people.

Remember that time Fenon cooked up an all-star HIV awareness song? HIV is still a major issue today, but imagine the impact of a similar all star track focused on drug abuse among youngins. Music has always been a powerful tool for awareness, and a well crafted campaign song could resonate with young people & spark important conversations what do u think?
The idea struck a chord online, but not everyone was convinced.
Some argued that today’s artistes lack the star power that made the 2006 campaign such a success.
@JagendaForty: We do not have stars now. They all became TikTokers and their influence can only last for a week or less. We the millennials were lucky to witness a generation of stars.
Others supported the idea, arguing that musicians should do more to address social issues affecting their audiences.
@AmosMug1: Our artistes are self-centered nowadays. They do not mind about their fans. A track focused on drug abuse would create awareness and do an impact on the young generation.
Some also reflected on the lasting impact of “A Little Bit of Love,” saying its message remains meaningful nearly two decades after its release.
@OgwangMicheal8: This song really has a meaning. Those affected with the disease, thoughts are with you. Wishing you all well always.

The reaction online suggests that “A Little Bit of Love still” holds a special place in the minds of many Ugandans.
The only question now is whether today’s crop of artistes can deliver a campaign with the same impact.
