Ugandans make nice music. They are gifted, and we have a lot of talent down here. But when it comes to sound quality and attention to detail, we need to improve.

In his view, too many musicians are in a hurry to put music out instead of taking time to refine their work.

We need to stop this business of going to the studio, recording a song in 30 minutes, and releasing it immediately.

Patience, he says, has always been part of his creative process.

Rather than rushing to release a track, he prefers to revisit it several times, making adjustments until he feels it is ready.

That approach paid off with one of his most popular songs, which stayed with him for an entire year before he finally released it.

One of my songs, the one people know the most, stayed with me for a year. It was not that I was scared to release it. I would listen and perfect it, then maybe as you try to look for a moment to release it, you listen again after like three months and maybe change something. At the end of the day, you come out with a really good product.

For Jiran, improving the industry’s sound starts with giving songs more time to develop.

Let us pay more attention to detail and bettering our sound.
