Mr P Claps Back at Fan Who Called for His Retirement From Music
Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has fired back after a social media user suggested that he should retire from music because of his age.
The debate started when an X user claimed the singer, who is 44, was too old to continue making Afrobeats music and should consider stepping away from the spotlight.
Sharing a clip from one of Mr P’s music videos, the user wrote:
I do not get why an almost 50 year old man is still singing like this. It is okay to retire.
The comment quickly sparked reactions online, with many fans coming to the singer’s defense.
Media personality Do2dtun also weighed in, arguing that age should not determine whether an artiste continues to perform.
He pointed out that several global stars, including Celine Dion, Shakira, Beyoncé, and the Backstreet Boys, remain active in the music industry despite being older than Mr P.
Peter is 44 but you dimwits are so ageist that you do not even know what you bring down in the name of clicks.
Mr P later responded, arguing that heartbroken P-Square fans are driving much of the criticism against him.
The singer accused his critics of applying double standards, arguing that they celebrate international stars who continue performing well into their forties and beyond while questioning his decision to remain active.
After dem realize say all those narratives no hold water, dem come with another one: ‘Now he is too old to be singing and dancing.’ Meanwhile, na the same people go celebrate and hype Usher, Beyoncé, and Chris Brown for doing exactly the same thing.
The exchange has reignited conversations about ageism in the entertainment industry and whether artistes should face pressure to retire as they grow older.
