Haffy Powers Says Artistes Embarrassed Themselves Trying to Impress Spice

Haffy Powers has criticized Ugandan artistes for how they tried to impress Spice during her Kampala visit.

The criticism follows a moment at the Jamaican dancehall star’s May 4 press conference, where Bucha Man, Mark D Urban, Fik Gaza, and Ziza Bafana performed freestyles and spoke Jamaican Patois in an attempt to match her style.

For Haffy, that approach missed the point, especially after seeing how Spice reacted to Ugandan culture upon arrival.

Our artistes trying to impress Spice in dancehall is quite embarrassing. I saw that girl happy at the airport dancing to Ngoma nganda. It was something unique she had never seen before. You cannot do dancehall better than them. You are actually annoying her.

Her comments shift attention from the performance itself to a wider question about identity and how Ugandan artistes present themselves when sharing space with global stars.

The “Safari Beats” concert, headlined by Spice, will take place this Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.
