“It Messes Up Their Ego,” Sheila Gashumba on Why Some Men Brand Successful Women with Derogatory Names
Media personality Sheilah Gashumba recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to speak out about how society treats successful women.
In her post, Gashumba pointed out that ambitious and accomplished women are often unfairly labeled, particularly by men who feel intimidated by their success.
“Dear bold and ambitious young ladies, I am writing this to prepare you that you will be called all sorts of names, especially ‘a prostitute,’ when you become successful,” she wrote.
She did not hold back, also highlighting how some people try to downplay women’s achievements by questioning their integrity, especially in corporate spaces.
“Even when a woman has a big role in the corporate world, insecure men will say, ‘she slept her way up there,’” her post continued.
Gashumba went on to explain that these kinds of remarks often stem from deep-rooted insecurities, failures, and laziness.
In her words, “Most men do not love the idea of a successful woman; it messes up their ego.”
She argued that any man who is truly confident and successful in his own right would never throw around such labels, especially toward someone he has never “bought.”
Despite the negativity, Gashumba encouraged young women not to be discouraged.
“Always keep your chin and head up. Keep chasing your goals and dreams and never let words slow you down. Keep your eyes on the prize,” she concluded.
