Katikkiro Mayiga Warns Youth Against Ignoring Education

The Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged Ugandan youth not to abandon education in favor of quick success.

His message followed growing online claims suggesting that formal schooling is no longer necessary to succeed.

In a post shared on March 4, 2026, Mayiga reminded young people that education remains a powerful tool despite changing trends.

Education remains a key. It may not be the only key, but it is certainly a fundamental one. It opens doors to knowledge, opportunity, innovation, and responsible leadership.

He noted that while a few people manage to succeed without much schooling, such examples are rare and should not shape the decisions of an entire generation.

Yes, there are a few successful individuals with limited formal education, but how many are they? They do not even constitute 1% of Uganda’s population. Exceptional cases should not be used to misguide a generation.

Mayiga stressed that education helps build knowledge and values, which play an important role in leadership and long term success.

Sustainable success is built on knowledge, discipline, and values and education provides that foundation. I firmly debunk the narrative that education is not essential to success.

His remarks quickly resonated online, with many users supporting his call for young people to stay focused on learning.
