Joshua Baraka Explains How “Morocco” Title Came From Studio Stalemate
Joshua Baraka has revealed that the title of his breakout single “Morocco” was a last minute decision made during a late night studio session in 2024, months before the country was confirmed as host of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Responding to a viral Tweet that read, “Tell me a story that sounds fabricated but is 100% true. Music industry edition,” Baraka shared the backstory behind the record that has since become one of his biggest global moments.
“I made Morocco in 2024. In the whole song I only say Morocco once and when we were closing the project to go sleep Axon suggested we call it Morocco since we were stuck on the title. Months later it turned out AFCON was in Morocco. God is real.”
The track, produced by his longtime collaborator Axon, had already begun circulating widely by the end of 2025, powered by its Afrobashment bounce and growing traction across clubs and social platforms.
The single has since grown into a cross continental hit, later earning a remix featuring Jamaican star Shenseea after the two linked up during her headline show at BK Arena in Rwanda.
That collaboration further expanded the song’s reach into Caribbean markets and beyond.
