Shallipopi Explains Why He Switched From Rap to Amapiano

Shallipopi has opened up about the reason he switched from rap to Amapiano music, saying the change helped his career grow faster.

The Nigerian artiste said he spent years making rap songs before deciding to embrace a sound that connects more easily with listeners and brings better rewards financially.

While speaking on a recent podcast, Shallipopi admitted that rap music still means a lot to him, but he believes Nigerian audiences give more attention to commercial party records.

I have been rapping for a while. I am a trap star. They made me do Amapiano. It is Amapiano that bring food to the table, so we will do it. I will drag it with them.

The singer also explained why he rejected the Headies award for Best Rap Song last year.

According to him, the award placed him in a box that does not fully represent his music style.

He insisted that his work covers both rap and singing, not just one side of music.
