Simi’s Resurfaced Tweets Referred to Lagos Police for Review

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has escalated a growing online controversy involving Nigerian singer Simi to the Lagos State Police for preliminary investigation.

The move comes after old tweets from 2012 to 2014 resurfaced and triggered widespread reaction on social media.

The posts, written years before Simi became a household name, have been interpreted by some users as inappropriate, leading to calls for official scrutiny.

In response, the agency confirmed it has informed the state safeguarding taskforce and referred the matter to the Commissioner of Police for review.

Officials, however, noted that any potential prosecution would require formal complaints and direct testimony from an alleged victim, as required under Nigerian law.

At this stage, the referral marks the beginning of a review process.

No charges have been filed, and Simi has not publicly commented on the development.
