UCC’s Warning: Clean Up Entertainment Content or Face the Consequences
The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has raised concern about the increase in inappropriate content being aired on various media platforms, including television, radio, and online channels.
This content, often seen in music videos, interviews, and lyrics, has been flagged for being offensive, obscene, and indecent.
The UCC pointed out instances where performers engage in sexually suggestive dances and songs filled with inappropriate messages.

According to the Commission, this violates the Minimum Broadcasting Standards set under the Uganda Communications Act of 2013.
Broadcasters are expected to ensure that all programs aired align with public morality, follow the law, and that any content meant for adults is aired at appropriate times.
Despite previous warnings, UCC noted that some broadcasters continue to ignore these standards.
As a result, the Commission is now reminding all media houses to classify their content properly with the Media Council before broadcasting, as required by the Press and Journalist Act.
Speaking on the same issue, Hon. Nyombi Thembo, the Executive Director of UCC, emphasized that all television and radio stations, as well as online channels, must ensure that content, including music videos and audios, is classified by the Media Council of Uganda.
Failure to comply will result in serious consequences such as suspension, fines, or the revocation of broadcasting licenses.
