Why A Pass Has Never Signed To A Record Label

A Pass says signing to a record label was never part of his journey.

The “Tuli Kubigere” singer believes many artistes lose creative control once contracts and outside pressure start influencing their careers, which pushed him to keep his team small from the very beginning.

While speaking on the Ugandan Boy Talk Show, A Pass revealed that his sister still manages him and continues playing a major role in building the brand alongside him.

I am not signed because I felt like usually when people are signed, they lose creative control. And that is why when I started working, I started working with my sister and up to now my sister is my manager. We manage ourselves.

The arrangement allows both of them to focus on different responsibilities behind the scenes.

While his sister handles management, contracts, and business matters, A Pass stays focused on the creative side.

My sister does not remind me to go to the studio, I remind myself. My sister is not involved in the music process, she is more involved in the business side of things. I try to make sure that I am good with my side of things, whether it is the production, the sound at the concert, or rehearsals. That stuff is mine.

For the singer, surrounding yourself with people who genuinely believe in the vision can make all the difference in building a lasting career.

When it comes to management, contracts, and stuff, yes we look into things together but she does the most. So I feel like also having someone who cares about your vision, cares about your goal, you can easily make it.

A Pass also encouraged upcoming artistes to spend more time learning discipline and self management instead of immediately searching for managers.

People are looking for managers, but they should find a way to manage, not to look for a manager.
