Ykee Benda Seeks FIFA Recognition With World Cup Song ‘Bonteka’

Ugandan singer Ykee Benda has released a new football anthem titled Bonteka and is hoping it catches the attention of FIFA.

The singer, born Wycliff Tugume, unveiled the Afro-fusion track under Mpaka Records and shared a message on X, saying he created the song out of his love for football.

Fellow Africans, I created a special song for the love of the game. All I wish for is for FIFA World Cup to recognise my song as I put in so much work to deliver this.

Bonteka carries a message of unity and togetherness, with lyrics such as “One world, one love, one goal, Bonteka” reflecting the spirit of football and its ability to bring people together across different cultures.

The release comes as football fans around the world turn their attention to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Ykee Benda hoping the song can become part of the excitement surrounding the tournament.

Since its release, fans have praised the track’s energetic sound and football-inspired message, with some expressing hope that it reaches audiences beyond Uganda.
