Mbidde Urges Muganga Not to Lose Hope After Ministerial Appointment Setback

Democratic Party Vice President Fred Mukasa Mbidde has urged Dr. Lawrence Muganga not to lose hope after circumstances prevented him from taking up the appointment of State Minister for Internal Affairs.

Speaking on the matter during an appearance on Sanyuka Uncut, Mbidde described Muganga as a friend and recalled his excitement when he heard about the appointment.

Dr. Muganga is my friend, and I was very happy when I heard the news of his appointment.

However, Mbidde said legal requirements relating to citizenship ultimately stood in the way, noting that such matters must follow established procedures regardless of an individual’s qualifications or suitability for office.

Despite the setback, he believes Muganga’s chances of serving in government have not disappeared and encouraged him to address the outstanding issues.

My advice to Dr. Muganga is not to lose hope but to put his papers right. The good thing is that the President still exists, and he too still exists. Opportunities can come again when everything is in order.

Mbidde also weighed in on criticism directed at Muganga after reports emerged that he had visited his parents’ graves following the failed appointment.

He dismissed the criticism, arguing that people often reflect on loved ones during difficult moments in their lives.

Those making such claims are simply haters. When you lose a loved one, there are moments when memories return, especially during difficult times. Visiting the graves of one’s parents should not be interpreted negatively.

The former legislator further brushed aside discussions about how much Muganga earns as a Vice Chancellor of Victoria University compared to what he would have earned as a minister, saying he could not verify such claims and questioning why they had become a major talking point.

Mbidde’s remarks add to the ongoing public discussion surrounding Muganga’s missed appointment and the legal requirements tied to eligibility for high public office.
