Six Arrested After Fatal Bungee Jump Accident in Brazil

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, a 21 year old woman from Brazil, died during a bungee jumping excursion after authorities said organizers may have missed critical safety procedures before the jump.

The tragedy unfolded on Saturday at Skeleton Bridge in Limeira, São Paulo state. Freitas had signed up for a guided adventure package that included the popular bridge jump.

Video circulating online appears to show staff members leading her to the edge of the structure moments before she went over the side. Soon after, witnesses realized something had gone wrong.

One person filming the jump reportedly noticed that a rope remained on the bridge instead of connecting to the participant. Witnesses later told police that Freitas fell roughly 131 feet after allegedly jumping without a connection to the safety system.

Emergency crews, including a police helicopter, rushed to the scene, but they could not save her. Local reports said her fiancé became ill after arriving at the location and later received medical treatment.

The fatal accident has since triggered a criminal investigation. Police arrested six people as investigators examine whether organizers ignored safety checks or operated the activity without proper authorization.

Authorities are now working to determine exactly what happened in the moments before the jump and whether any failures contributed to the tragedy.
