Darkoo Claims Women Control Music Trends

British-Nigerian singer Darkoo has said that women play a major role in making songs and genres popular.

The “Favorite Girl” hitmaker explained that many songs gain attention because women like them and often influence men to play the songs they enjoy.

On a recent episode of the Comfortably Speaking podcast, Darkoo said the South African genre Amapiano became popular because women started dancing to it on social media.

She noted that at first, people thought the dance trends were unusual, but soon the genre caught on with men as well.

Darkoo insisted that women influence music choices in general and that a lot of the songs people enjoy today are popular because women like them first.
