Expect Many More Songs of That Kind – Gravity Omutujju
Singer Gravity Omutujju, real name Gereson Wabuyi, has strongly defended his music, rejecting claims that it is vulgar.
Speaking to Sanyuka TV, he clarified that he has never used vulgar language in his songs and prides himself on being a thoughtful and artistic musician.
According to Gravity, the criticism comes from a misunderstanding, with some people failing to grasp the deeper meaning behind his songs and rushing to conclusions.
He emphasized that his music is designed to appeal to a wide range of listeners and is always fresh and innovative.
While he writes some of his songs, he also buys others, a common practice in the music industry. Despite this, he ensures that each song offers something unique to his fans.
In response to criticism from fellow artiste Phina Masanyalaze, who is also the vice president of the Uganda National Cultural Centre, Gravity dismissed her comments.
He argued that she is not in a position to judge him, given her past music and style.
He urged critics to simply avoid his music if they do not enjoy it, as many others appreciate it.
Gravity also highlighted the versatility of his music, noting that it spans genres like kadongo kamu, reggae, and Afrobeat, pop, name it.
He firmly stated that he will continue making music in that style and welcomes constructive feedback only from those who have contributed to his career, such as his fans and the Uganda National Musicians Federation.
However, he rejected criticism from fellow artists like Phina Masanyalaze and institutions like the Uganda National Cultural Centre, which, according to him, have not supported his career, even during personal hardships like the loss of his mother.
Gravity reiterated that he does not use vulgarity in his music, nor does he enjoy such content, and called on the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) to stop labeling his work as vulgar.
