Grace Nakimera Challenges Eddy Kenzo Over Artiste Recognition
Singer Grace Nakimera has called on Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president Eddy Kenzo to do more to ensure musicians receive the acknowledgment they deserve for their work.
Nakimera questioned why many artistes continue to perform and entertain audiences across the country yet remain overlooked.
She urged Kenzo to use his position and influence to address the issue, arguing that several musicians have played an important role in Uganda’s music scene without receiving the credit they deserve.
Kenzo welcomed the concerns and said he believes Nakimera raised them with the best interests of the industry at heart. He added that he remains committed to addressing challenges affecting musicians and improving their welfare.
The conversation then shifted to veteran artistes, a topic that has generated debate within the industry in recent weeks.
Kenzo said veteran artistes such as Lord Fred Sebatta should receive greater recognition for the role they played in shaping Uganda’s music industry.
He added that today’s artistes and industry leaders should acknowledge the pioneers who laid the foundation for the industry’s growth.
The discussion raised a broader question about how Uganda’s music industry recognizes both its current stars and the trailblazers who helped build it.
