Joeboy Blames Ego For Tension Between Nigerian Artistes
Joeboy has blamed ego for the growing tension behind collaborations in the Nigerian music industry.
The Afrobeats singer shared his thoughts during a chat on Cool FM Lagos alongside Wizard Chan, where both artistes opened up about problems they face while working with colleagues.
Joeboy explained that he prefers recording music with friends because the atmosphere feels more relaxed and free from rivalry.
According to him, some artistes enter collaborations with the mindset of proving they are better than everyone else on the song.
The singer also said he enjoys hearing featured artistes deliver standout performances because collaborations should improve the track instead of creating competition.
Personally, if I feature you, I expect you to outshine me in the song. That is why I featured you. So, I do not get the competition.
Wizard Chan agreed with the point and revealed that some artistes try to control how others record their verses.
He also claimed that a few musicians rewrite their parts after hearing stronger performances from collaborators.
The reason I would feature anybody is because I cannot do what they are doing. And I can not even tell them to sound like me or do my style. The aim of collaboration is to bring a different aspect to the song. And it is not a competition.
