Sir Aludah Draws the Line on Stage Tips: Appreciation Yes, Requests No
Popular Ugandan DJ James Mugume, popularly known as Sir Aludah, has weighed in on the ongoing conversation about tipping entertainers during performances, making it clear that he personally sees nothing wrong with accepting money from fans.
The discussion started after Kenyan DJ Joe Mfalme revealed that he and his entire team of DJs do not take tips while performing.
According to Mfalme, accepting tips can sometimes make fans feel entitled to control the performance, which is why he and his team choose to avoid the situation completely.

Reacting to the conversation on X, Sir Aludah explained that he views tipping as a simple show of appreciation from people enjoying the performance.
A tip is simply someone appreciating your service delivery. I will take that all day.
Still, the DJ made it clear that he draws a line when money starts coming with demands attached to it.
But if someone is trying to pay you to play a specific request, honestly, I would not take it. Though you just might hear your request along the way.
The conversation also brought back a recent viral moment involving celebrated Ugandan reggae artiste Maddox Sematimba, who ignored a woman attempting to tip him during a performance.

Earlier this year, Haffy Powers also weighed in on the culture of tipping entertainers, criticizing fans who throw money at artistes during performances instead of handing it over respectfully.
At the time, the media personality argued that while artistes may appreciate the support financially, publicly throwing money at them often strips away dignity from the moment.
