Skales Urges Young Nigerians To Leave The Country
Afrobeats singer Skales has stirred debate online after advising young Nigerians to prioritise leaving the country in search of better opportunities abroad.
The “Shake Body” hitmaker shared the opinion on his X account, where he argued that emigrating could improve survival chances and help many youths achieve their dreams.
As a young Nigerian, your biggest dream should be to leave Nigeria so you can survive and actually achieve your dream by at least staying alive.
The statement quickly triggered criticism from several Nigerians who accused the singer of encouraging brain drain instead of motivating citizens to push for change within the country.
Some critics argued that life abroad comes with its own struggles, including racism, discrimination and economic hardship, making Skales’ comments appear overly simplistic.
Others questioned why celebrities who built their careers and wealth in Nigeria later speak negatively about the country.
One user identified as JohnBullaSings criticised the singer’s stance and argued that leaving Nigeria should not become every young person’s ultimate goal.
Another commenter, Sally, rejected the idea that safety and success automatically await Nigerians overseas and pointed to the racial discrimination many Africans face abroad.
Users including Okoyemekun and Ethealdiadi also insisted that Nigeria still holds opportunities worth building and improving rather than abandoning completely.
