Struggling Red Benton Appeals for Support to Stage a Comeback Concert

Once a household name with hit songs like “Nonya Money,” “Kakona,” and “Speed 180,” singer Red Banton is now largely absent from discussions about the best Ugandan musicians.

Many in Gen-Z may not even recognize his name, possibly confusing it with a clothing brand.

Speaking to Sanyuka TV, the veteran artiste, whose real name is Tony Lubega, revealed that his life is far from some, and he is struggling to stay afloat.

He explained that the music industry is expensive, making it difficult for him to continue his career.

“Recording an audio is the easiest part, costing about UGX 500,000, but a decent music video costs no less than UGX 5 million. Effective promotion can cost UGX 10 million. It is not easy,” he shared.

Red Banton appealed to promoter Norbert Events for support, admitting that he feels uncertain about the direction his life is taking.

While he still manages to secure a few performance gigs, he pointed out that when he is not performing, he is not earning.

He expressed a strong desire to hold a concert, confident in his ability to deliver an outstanding performance, but he needs help with the organization and logistics.
