UCC Announces Annual Concert to Revive Kadongo Kamu Music
Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Executive Director George William Nyombi Thembo has announced an annual concert aimed at reviving the Kadongo Kamu music genre, with the first edition scheduled for July 31.
Speaking to journalists, Thembo said the initiative seeks to restore the beauty and legacy of Kadongo Kamu, which he described as the foundation of Uganda’s music industry.
He explained that the genre once dominated the local music scene before modern music styles slowly pushed it into the background.
Thembo also revealed that UCC is working with music promoters and other stakeholders to organize the concert while engaging established artistes to support the initiative.
The younger generation should know that Kadongo Kamu is the pioneer genre through which Ugandan music developed. Many of today’s sounds still draw influence from it. We must protect and preserve this legacy.
He added that UCC plans to hold the concert every year to keep the genre alive and celebrate its contribution to Uganda’s cultural identity.
The concert will also bring together Kadongo Kamu performers and contemporary artistes, giving audiences a blend of classic and modern Ugandan music.
