Ayra Starr Explains Why She No Longer Creates Music Purely From Emotion
Ayra Starr says the way she creates music today looks very different from the emotional process behind her earlier songs.
During a conversation on the Creatorium Podcast, the Mavin Records star explained that she now enters the studio more focused on experimentation, sounds and creative freedom rather than relying heavily on feelings.
Lately, for me, creating just starts with trying. Not emotion; just trying, then we see where it takes us.
Instead of building songs around emotional moments, ideas can now begin with random chords, unusual sounds or samples she wants to explore.
That shift, according to the singer, has made the creative process far more adventurous compared to the era of her first album, where emotional storytelling shaped much of the music.
Ayra Starr also revealed that inspiration sometimes appears in the most unexpected places.
Her song “Beggie Beggie” came together during a bus ride home after hearing a woman react to someone begging inside the vehicle.
Somebody was begging inside the bus, and a woman said, ‘See this one, beggie beggie.’
Away from songwriting, the singer also reflected on the demanding reality behind music stardom.
Weeks of rehearsals and preparation can easily fall apart because of one technical issue during a live performance.
The glamour is the glamour, but behind the scenes, it is a lot of work.
