Kapeke Says Ugandan Artistes Are Losing Competitiveness
Singer Kapeke has named Vyroota, Fik Fameica, and Mimi Kampala among the artistes currently impressing him in Uganda’s music scene.
Speaking during an interview on Galaxy TV, Kapeke said he has been paying attention to their music while reflecting on the current competitiveness in the industry.
I would say Vyroota, Fik Fameica, Kapeke, and Mimi Kampala. Mimi Kampala is a great and talented artist, and I really love her work.
He singled out Mimi Kampala for special praise and pointed to the reaction she received while performing at the Zzina Carnival as proof that her audience continues to grow.
When I called her to perform at the Zzina Carnival, the reaction from the crowd showed that people really loved her. Fellow female artists should be very keen and aware of that.
Kapeke also shared concerns about the current state of Ugandan music, saying many artistes record music consistently but fail to make songs that truly connect with listeners.
Lately, artists are no longer as competitive. They are in the studio working tirelessly, but I do not get to hear their songs. Everywhere I go, I mostly hear my own music. They are not competitive; it feels like they just sing for the sake of singing.
His comments praise selected artistes while also challenging the wider industry to raise its level of creativity and impact.
