Cindy Urges Artistes to Evolve Without Losing Their Signature Style

Cindy Sanyu has weighed in on the pressure many artistes face to abandon their signature sound in favor of what is currently trending.

While appearing on 21 Questions, the singer acknowledged the value of evolving creatively, but emphasized the importance of staying grounded in one’s artistic identity.

I feel like trends are good, you know, because in general, creativity is good as it changes. You cannot stay the same throughout.

Still, she cautioned against chasing trends at the expense of one’s core audience, especially for artistes who have already built a reputation on a specific style.

As an established artiste, you have people who believe in you and know you for a certain style and branding. Do not forget about them. They are your foundation. Do not dump them for a new thing.

Rather than switching genres entirely, Cindy suggested that artistes can stay current by collaborating with new producers.

Find a way to keep your core fans and bring in new ones. Stick with your people and find a way to blend what you know with what is new. Sometimes, we do that just by changing the producer. You get this new guy, work with them, and sometimes that is all you need because they have a different touch.

In her view, lasting success comes from balancing change with staying true to the style that fans first connected with.

Trends are amazing, but for us artistes who came before, do not abandon the style you are known for just to do something new.
