Dr Hilary Okello Names Salvador as His Comedy Inspiration

Ugandan comedian Dr Hilary Okello has named Patrick Salvador Idringi as his all time favorite in stand up comedy.

Often called Africa’s Doctor of Comedy, Hilary walked away from medicine to focus fully on the stage, a decision that continues to define his path.

While speaking on KFM, he pointed to Salvador as the man who shaped his vision and made comedy feel like a real career path.

In Uganda, I would say, in stand-up comedy, I would say Salvador. He was my inspiration growing up because I watched him a lot, and he was sort of the person who created a path that makes you feel this is the path I would also love to take. He is someone who went to school and then chose to do comedy, and he has both local and international appeal. So that is someone who represents where I wanted to be. So in stand-up comedy in Uganda, I would say Salvador.

Hilary also named the comedians he rates as the best in Ugandan comedy, pointing to names he clearly holds in high regard.

He singled out Amooti Omubalanguzi and Reign Omusoyisoyi.

In Uganda, there is a guy called Amooti Omubalanguzi. Amooti is fantastic. Another act I really like is Reign of Maulana & Reign. Reign is fantastic.

His remarks paint a clear picture of a comedian shaped by inspiration and guided by respect for those he believes stand out in Ugandan comedy.
