King Michael Claims He Wrote Chameleone’s “Kigwa Leero” Chorus

King Michael has made two eye-catching claims about his connection to Jose Chameleone, saying he wrote the chorus of “Kigwa Leero” and received the “Kwata Kwata” chorus directly from the Leone Island boss.

The singer says those moments reflect a relationship that influenced some of the biggest chapters of his music career.

Among the revelations, King Michael claims he penned the chorus of Chameleone’s “Kigwa Leero,” a song that went on to become one of the singer’s most recognisable hits.

His involvement with Chameleone’s music, he says, did not stop there.

Before “Kwata Kwata” became a household anthem, King Michael says Chameleone introduced him to the chorus during an encounter at Speke Hotel and encouraged him to record it.

He took the idea to the studio and recorded the song. Later, however, he says the same chorus ended up with Weasel Manizo after his relationship with Chameleone broke down.

Even then, “Kwata Kwata” did not become an instant success.

The song sat unreleased for nearly two years before veteran singer Mesach Semakula persuaded him to put it out. Once it hit the market, it quickly became one of the standout songs of his career.

King Michael’s journey through the industry also brought him into contact with another influential figure: Ragga Dee.

Before recording music professionally, he worked as MC Michael and later DJ Michael at Lido Beach, where he developed the freestyle and ragga style that would later define his sound.

Ragga Dee recognised that potential early. King Michael says the veteran artiste encouraged him to pursue music and even paid for his first studio session.

Looking back at the industry today, he sees a completely different landscape from the one he entered years ago.

While artists once depended heavily on radio and television to break records, he believes platforms such as TikTok now give songs a faster route to audiences through content creators and viral trends.
