“Doctors Counseled Me” — Leila Chandiru Responds to Critics Over Producer Didi Romance

Leila Chandiru is not letting online criticism shake her relationship with veteran Ugandan music producer Didi, whose real name is Abdul Karim Muchwa.

Ever since the couple went public, social media users have continued questioning why she chose to stay with the producer after he publicly revealed that he is HIV positive.

Some critics claim Chandiru pities him because of his condition, while others believe she only wants him because of his status and influence in the entertainment industry.

Chandiru, however, says the relationship comes from understanding and informed decisions rather than public opinion.

Appearing on Sanyuka TV’s Uncut, the singer revealed that doctors counseled them before they chose to continue the relationship.

There are very many couples out there where one partner is sick and the other is not, and they even have children. In our case, we sat with doctors and they counseled me because I am the one who is going to be with him. So I am okay with it.

Producer Didi publicly revealed his HIV status in June 2024, sparking heavy debate online and triggering intense cyberbullying.

He later stepped away from the spotlight for rehabilitation before returning publicly earlier this year and introducing Chandiru as his partner after months of secretly dating since mid-2025.

The couple has since continued speaking openly about their relationship despite ongoing criticism online.
