Lwasa Backtracks on Islam Conversion, Turns to Christianity
Emmanuel Lwasa Kaweesi is back in the spotlight after making another major switch in his faith.
Months after converting to Islam and taking on the name Acram, Lwasa has now walked away from the religion and returned to his birth name, Emmanuel.
The controversial Masaka City businessman, who embraced Islam in August 2025 after leaving his Catholic roots, says he has now chosen a different path.
Speaking in a recent interview, Lwasa made it clear that he is no longer a Muslim and has chosen to follow Christianity.
I am no longer a Muslim. I have converted and chosen to follow Christ.
He says the decision came after failing to see results from his time in Islam, despite fully committing to its practices.
I used to pray five times a day and had a teacher who guided me in Islam. I expected a lot, including healing, but all in vain.
According to Lwasa, everything changed when he sought help over his health and ended up at Pastor Kakande’s church.
They told me to first go to the hospital and check for diabetes, which I did. I came back to the church, and they confirmed the diagnosis. Pastor Kakande prayed for me, and I was healed. That is why I chose to become born-again
He also spoke about the moment during prayers that left a lasting impression on him.
I did not think I would fall when the pastor touched me, but when he prayed for me, I felt like electricity passing through my body. Eventually, I found myself on the ground.
Now, Lwasa says he has no regrets about leaving Islam and insists the decision was entirely his.
I do not regret leaving Islam because I am old enough to make my own decisions. This is my path, and I am grateful for the healing and new life I have found.
