Samson Kasumba Honors the Legacy of Legendary DJ Bush Baby

The Ugandan media and entertainment fraternity is grieving the loss of one of its most influential pioneers, DJ Bush Baby, born Michael Owor.

He sadly discovered dead in his studio in Entebbe on Thursday, 5 June 2025, sending shockwaves through the industry he helped shape.

Widely celebrated for transforming the urban music landscape and nurturing countless careers, Bush Baby’s passing marks the end of a defining era in East African pop culture.

One of the first public figures to pay tribute was NBS TV’s senior journalist and news anchor, Samson Kasumba.

Through an emotional social media post and a heartfelt on-air tribute, Kasumba reflected on the deep professional connection he shared with DJ Bush Baby.

“DJ Bush Baby did not just work in media. He lived and breathed it. He joined me in this industry with a fearless vision and a unique vibe that was ahead of its time. His legacy will always live on. We are not just mourning a colleague but a brother who opened doors for so many of us,” he said.

Kasumba also praised Bush Baby’s generosity and mentorship, describing him as “the cool mentor” who never gatekept opportunities.

Rather than compete or exclude, Bush Baby consistently championed young talent and pushed for the recognition of Ugandan music, especially at a time when it struggled to gain a foothold on mainstream platforms.
