Zafaran Draws the Line: No Live Band, No Performance

Fast-rising singer Zafaran has drawn a clear line when it comes to her performances: if she is stepping on stage, there must be live music.

Speaking during a recent interview, the singer revealed that she no longer performs on pre recorded CDs. Instead, she prefers live performances, whether that means a full band, an acoustic setup, or a simple instrumental arrangement.

Zafaran said she understands that not every event organizer can afford a full live band. Because of that, she remains flexible and can perform with a guitarist or keyboard player depending on the budget. What matters most to her is giving fans a genuine live music experience.

The singer also reflected on one of the toughest performances of her career while appearing at a bar in Mukono. She had been booked to perform immediately after Kapeke and quickly realized she was facing a crowd with very different musical tastes.

Although the audience listened respectfully, Zafaran could tell the connection was missing. The experience taught her the importance of understanding an audience and making sure event organizers know exactly what kind of artist they are booking.

That lesson continues to shape how she approaches performances today. Zafaran wants promoters, bars, and event organizers to understand that she is a live performer and should be booked with that in mind.

While she prefers live performances, the singer stressed that she has no issue with artists who use CDs or backing tracks. She simply believes musicians should always strive to give fans value for their money.

A full band may not always be possible, but for Zafaran, performing live is not up for negotiation.
