Cindy Says She Was Blacklisted After Rejecting Sexual Advances

Ugandan singer Cindy Sanyu has opened up about alleged exploitation in the music industry, revealing that rejecting sexual advances from powerful figures came at a cost to her career.

Speaking during an interview on Spark TV, she said the industry can be tough for artistes who choose not to compromise their values.

My music was not played for almost a year because I refused to sleep with some people in power.

She explained that the pressure is not new, but has grown over time, spreading beyond producers to include other key players in the industry.

Back in the day it was just producers, but today even promoters want their own share, and it has nothing to do with money.

Cindy also pointed to a clear gender imbalance, saying women often face harsher judgment in such situations.

Men may not really be shamed for doing this, but for a woman it affects her dignity.

Despite the setbacks, she said she chose to protect her integrity, even if it meant slowing down her progress.

Her remarks have since reignited conversation around power dynamics, exploitation, and the realities artistes face behind the scenes.
