Fela Kuti Makes History as First African in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Legendary Nigerian icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti has broken new ground, becoming the first African artiste inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The honour places him among global music greats, decades after he shaped the Afrobeat sound that influenced generations.
Organisers announced this year’s inductees during a live broadcast of American Idol, confirming Fela’s place in the early influence category.
He joins names like Queen Latifah and Celia Cruz, while Sade Adu also secured recognition.
The ceremony will take place on November 14 in Los Angeles.
The milestone adds to Fela Kuti’s legacy following his recent Grammy Lifetime Achievement award.
