Selecta Jeff Opens Up On Artistes Intimidating DJs For Airplay
Selecta Jeff has shared a story about an artiste who allegedly tried to force him into playing their music during one of his nightclub sets.
The Ugandan DJ revealed on X that the incident happened while he was performing at a bar he chose not to name.
According to him, the artiste walked up to the DJ booth with a group of more than 10 people and pressured him to play their song immediately.
Rather than giving in, he warned them that intimidation was never the right way to push music.
A while ago, I was at some Bar (name withheld), playing my set & a certain artiste walked up on me with a Gang (10+ ppl) & asked me to play their Ziki (by force). I told ‘em, ‘If this is yo strategy 2 push yo music, I do not think you will blow up anytime soon.’ They still have not.
Over the years, artistes have used different ways to push their music, from moving around town with CDs and flash disks to personally visiting radio stations and clubs asking DJs for airplay.
Today, promotion has largely shifted online, with many musicians relying on TikTok trends, influencers, music streaming platforms, and social media campaigns to get their songs in front of audiences.
Still, Selecta Jeff’s post highlights the pressure DJs sometimes face behind the scenes as artistes try to force their way into the spotlight.
