Fik Gaza Re-Arrested Moments After Court Grants Him Bail

Musician Shafiq Jjingo, popularly known as Fik Gaza, failed to regain his freedom on Tuesday despite being granted bail in a simple robbery case linked to Katwe.

Shortly after the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court released him on a cash bail of Shs 1 million, police swiftly re-arrested him on fresh charges of aggravated robbery related to a separate case in Wakiso.

Fik Gaza had appeared in court alongside three other suspects: Najib Magoola, David Mutuba (Marvin Gaza), and Charles Zziwa (Mzungu).

The group was arrested last Thursady during a police operation targeting suspected criminals in the Katwe Division and was initially expected to appear in court the next day.

However, following advice from the State Attorney, the charges, originally listed as aggravated robbery, were downgraded to simple robbery, which delayed their arraignment to Tuesday, 8 April 2025.

During the hearing, the court granted Fik Gaza bail on the condition that he surrenders his passport. Each of his sureties was bonded at Shs 10 million, non-cash.

However, his brief moment of legal relief was short-lived.

As he stepped out of the courtroom, police officers quickly re-arrested him over a new case of aggravated robbery now under investigation by Wakiso police.

Authorities say the first arrest followed a targeted raid on his residence, prompted by a spike in robbery cases in and around the Katwe area.

During the operation, security personnel reportedly recovered pangas, military-style clothing, and suspected narcotics.

While the Katwe case has been adjourned to May 12, the fresh charges from Wakiso have landed the singer back behind bars.
