Catherine Kusasira Says Her Children Must Build Their Own Wealth

Not every parent measures success by what they leave behind for their children.

While many focus on building wealth for the next generation, others believe in raising children who can build for themselves.

For Catherine Kusasira, the goal is not to work for her children, but to prepare them to stand on their own.

Speaking to Daily Soup, the musician and presidential adviser made it clear that she does not believe in creating ready-made comfort for her children, arguing that such an approach only weakens a child’s drive to work and earn independently.

Instead, she believes children should grow up understanding the value of effort, which is why she focuses on giving them a strong foundation through education rather than material guarantees.

I do not want to say that I am working for children. My things are my things. I do not work for children. They will work for their own things. Even us, we did not find things in place from our parents. Every time you tell a child that you have prepared something for them, they do not get the energy to work for their own things. What I have to do for children is give them a future through good education.

That belief, Catherine Kusasira explained, shapes how she raises her children, with a strong emphasis on discipline, accountability, and independence.

She added that she has set clear expectations to guide them, especially when it comes to responsibility and personal choices.

I tell my children three things. If they fall sick, they should know that I do not treat sexually transmitted diseases. Secondly, if you are bringing a grandchild to my home, you have to bring someone who will take care of them. Thirdly, my things are my things, not for the children. My children have to do their own things and work for their own things.
