Jacob Omutuuze Urges Kadongo Kamu Veterans to Allow Remakes to Keep Genre Alive
Media personality DJ Jacob Omutuuze has urged Kadongo Kamu veterans to allow the new generation to remake their classic songs, saying it is one of the clearest ways to keep the genre relevant in today’s evolving music industry.
Speaking on Spark TV, he said music trends have shifted and called for a more open mindset when it comes to collaboration and reinterpretation.
The owners of Kadongo Kamu songs should allow artistes from this generation to remake them because the art has changed.
Omutuuze explained that the genre can only grow if young artistes first understand its roots, then carry that foundation into modern sounds that connect with today’s audience.
The solution is to teach and educate the current crop of artistes about that music genre, then blend those educational songs with trending styles.
He also pointed out that resistance from some original creators continues to slow this transition, even as the industry moves forward.
To underline his argument, Jacob Omutuuze compared Uganda’s music industry to those in the United States and South Africa, where artistes and stakeholders actively preserve their musical heritage while still allowing it to evolve through structured systems and clear genre identities.
